Club Organization & Leadership

The St. Louis Powerhitters Volleyball Club was formed in 2005 by Teresa Russo as a one-team boy's-only program. In 2006 a girl's program was added. The Club also reorganized that same year as a not-for-profit corporation under Missouri law. It did so in this fashion so as to provide it with the greatest legal flexibility in carrying out its purposes. The Club is exempt from federal taxation under provisions of the Internal Revenue Code. It is exempt from state and local sales taxes under Missouri law. These tax provisions permit the Club to pass along savings to its players and parents, as it is able to purchase uniforms, equipment, and supplies at lower costs.

The Corporation is governed by a Board of Directors, most of whom are parents of Powerhitters' players. The Directors are responsible for receiving information from parents, players, and coaches; developing and implementing policies and procedures for the efficient and effective operation of the Club, and approving a budget. Directors serve three year terms on a rotating basis beginning August 1, the start of the Corporation's fiscal year. Kevin Nelson currently serves as the Corporation's President and Club Director responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organization. Tracey Johnson serves as an at-large parental Director. Michelle Wilson and Tim Walsh currently coach for the Club.

The Club's approach and philosophy has been to have but one team at each age level we sponsor. We choose to be a small, select, and elite Club, filling a specific niche among clubs in the Gateway Region as an original member of the Premier Invitational League, and its successor, the Gateway League.
