The Club hosted a series of clinics in September and October, 2011 on Wednesday's from 7-9 p.m. at Bernard Middle School, 1054 Forder Road, St. Louis, Mo 63125. These sessions were designed for players 14 and under. Clinics covered the basic volleyball skills to assist players with preparing for tryouts. Please watch the above Vimeo video of our 2010-11 16's team coached by Elisha Snodgrass demonstrate the proper techniques of passing (Lindsay Watkins, Kristen Goulden, and Becky Pugliese), setting (Maggie Eggleston), and hitting (Maggie Amato, Elise Ott, Becky Vandas, Rachel Narup).
Sessions were led by Brian Hackworth Jr., junior varsity coach at McCluer Senior High School, and Heather Ebert, varsity coach at Gibault Catholic High School. Each clinic had at least five coaches present to provide as much one-on-one instruction as possible. Sessions cost only $5 per player, and gave players and parents the opportunity to meet the members of the Club coaching and leadership staff. Specific skills were taught on specific dates, as follows:
September 14 - "Passing & Movement" (for all players)
September 21 - "Serving & Setting" (for all players)
September 28 - "Passing & Setting for Hitters" (designed for hitters)
October 5 - "Setting & Passing" (for all players)
October 12 - "Advanced Serving & Hitting" (for all players)
October 17 - "Hitting & Blocking" (for all players)
Of the 32 players who made our 12's-14's teams, 22 improved theri skills by attending one or more clinics. Players could register on-line for one or more clinics through the link at the top of this page. "Walk-in" registrants were welcome, but we prefered players to register on-line so that we might have a more accurate idea of how many players are attending, and thus could better plan our clinics. When registering, players were to indicate as their "age level" that at which they would play if they were to play club volleyball this upcoming season.
A "Participation & Waiver" form must be completed and brought to the first clinic a player attends - it may be found on the Documents link to our website. Parents were encouraged to bring their own chair, as seating is limited.
